History:
Brewery Saint Christopher is a former Roermond beer brewery
which was active between 1986 and 2013. The brewery was seen as the greatest of small breweries in the Netherlands. The name “St. Christopher” comes from the patron saint of the city of Roermond: Saint Christopher .
Today Christoffel beers are brewed again in Belgium Lochristi
commissioned by the brewery tenant St Christopher Special Beers BV from Breda.
In 2008, 70% of the Christoffel Beer was sold through export. The main export countries were Denmark , Canada and Russia . In the nineties, Christoffel Blond (now called Christoffel Bier) was three times awarded the title “Best Bottled Beer of the Netherlands”.
About the Beer:
Christoffel Bier is a double hopped, bottom fermented, unfiltered light golden craft beer. A very nice pilsner that goes down quite nicely. The beer has an excellent balance with a solid fruity backing & plenty of flavours to keep you interested while remaining refreshing & easy to drink throughout. It has minimal initial sweetness and an exciting bitter bite which is not excessive. The finish is quite long, hoppy, bitter and soft. Drinking this beer at a cold temperature reveals the aroma of a perfect spring day. Definitely a different kind of pilsner and pretty good too…!!
