My Maredsous Triple Beer Experience

Hazy reddish-orange amber with golden highlights, crowned by a super creamy, big puffy off-white head that clings tenaciously like a monk’s cowl. It’s a sight that begs to be savored in a gently contoured tulip glass, where the foam’s Duvel-like consistency and deep color paint a truly striking portrait. This beer is brewed with special caramel malts, achieving its vibrant amber hue without resorting to artificial sugars – a testament to the purity of the craft.

A gentle, fruity marshmallow sweetness that saturates my mind is followed by undertones of citrus fruit mélange and a rich fruit cake. Vanilla, caramel, and banana notes work their magic, while a hint of flowery alcohol esters lends just a hint of mystery.

This beer is really good as the first sip matches the visual and fragrant promises. As promised, the beer has a strong fruitiness that is accompanied by a flavor of subtle hops, pepper, clove and nutmeg. Add on that a lovely tartness that nicely balances the touch of sweetness, banana and floral notes. A touch of sunlight is added by the orange and honey, and a delightful, herbal dryness is left on the palate after a balanced finish of sweet grain and subtle citrus hop bitterness.

This mouthfeel is opulent. A rich, juicy feeling is produced by the mild carbonation, which coats every crevice of your mouth like a soft velvet blanket. As it dries down, there’s a slight sticky taste, but that serves as a pleasant reminder of the depth and complexity of the brew.

The Duvel family, known for their exceptional brewing of Maredsous 10, is well-known for their remarkable ability to conceal the amount of alcohol in their beers. This Tripel is one of the best. With a massive 10% ABV, it tastes almost entirely like a pleasant, easy-going ale with very no fire flavour. This is a brewing masterclass and it is a commendable accomplishment.

All things considered, Maredsous 10 is an experience rather than merely a beer. its a voyage through the senses, a smooth operator that deftly conceals its intensity and the ideal ratio of sweetness to acidity. This beer fits the definition of “dangerously drinkable”; you’ll find yourself reaching for it over and over.

Although I’ve seen other Tripels that have similarly astounded me, Maredsous 10 manages to compete remarkably well thanks to its distinct appeal and historical relevance. A sip of this beer is like travelling back in time as it carries tales of monks and brewing customs.

Therefore, do yourself a favour and pick one up if your travels ever take you to the Maredsous Abbey (Monastery) or if you happen upon this treasure at any store.

P.S. If you’ve had the Maredsous Tripel, I’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments below! Let’s keep the conversation brewing at beerWithSid.com
