About the beer

Totalitarian pours with an espresso black body, just like a classic Imperial Russian Stout.  I has a beautiful brown head that falls to a nice film layer with a surface coating of foam and excellent lacing.
Sweet char rises to the nose along with a robust aroma of cocoa, coffee, smoke, dark fruit, earthen spice and a tinge off alcohol spice
Lots of dry roast flavors that hit on taking the first sip with rich coffee bitterness. Surprisingly sweet on the tongue but not cloying with flavors of chocolate, dark caramel, roasted coffee and sugar. A nice espresso roast and charred malt begins to develop in the mid palate. It adds bitterness and balance.

The alcohol, although clearly evident, is actually masked well enough. Despite the high ABV, this is amazingly drinkable.
The carbonation is moderate to gentle. Sweet and sticky at first, it then turns roasty and bitter, making the finish dry. It is smooth and creamy with an alcohol spice that tingles the tongue.

The alcohol content is appropriate for the style and you know that you’re drinking a strong beer, that’s part of the experience.
It’s a great companion beer. You have a sip, put it down, walk away, do something else and then come back to it. Like a companion while watching good movie, reading book, having a conversation with a friend. The flavor lingers for so long that you could probably flip few pages while a reading book or while talking to a friend between sips.
