ESB is a popular strong ale (5.5% ABV) produced by Fuller’s at the Griffin Brewery in Chiswick, London. ESB was first brewed in 1971 as a replacement for a beer called Old Burton Extra.
Fuller’s ESB was named CAMRA’s(Campaign for Real Ale) Champion Beer of Britain in 1978, 1981 and 1985. It has also been named CAMRA’s Strong Ale of the Year seven times – more than any other beer. ESB has also won the World Champion Beer award on two occasions, giving the brew the nickname “The Champion Ale”.
About the Beer
Fuller’s knows how to make an amazing beer and Fuller’s ESB is a unique beer with a strong, full-bodied, mahogany-coloured ale and a big, lasting light tan head with some good lacing . The blend of Pale Ale and Crystal malts in the brew gives a biscuity, toffee element to the beer. The flavour delivers everything you would expect from such a full-bodied ale. A smooth, delicate bitterness lingers on the palate to give a supreme finish.
Wasn’t really sure what to expect from an ESB – I like this beer a lot, it’s very easy to drink and has a nice, simple flavor profile that is clean and crisp. It’s just a simple beer done very, very well. A perfect beer to share and enjoy with a group of friends in a relaxed environment.
