History
The Kasztelan Brewery was founded in 1972 and taken over by Carlsberg in 2004.The original brewery was founded in Sierpc. In the early 1990s the brewery underwent major modernisation, which helped to increase production capacity to approximately 800,000 hl today.
A Kasztelan (as depicted on the label) was a governor or local official responsible for payment collection in former times. The word comes from the Latin Castellanus, derived from castellum ‘castle’.
About the Beer
The color of the Beer is a nice-looking shade of gold, rapidly disappearing foam leaving behind a thin lacing. The taste is slightly malty, the aroma is quite intense and that is due to Marynka Hops, as they are known for its high potential for being aromatic and fairly high in alpha acids. Pleasant hint of grassy hops, minimum fruitiness and fine traces of honey. The Beer is quite light and even very pleasant. It is rich with natural and earthy taste as it is brewed from bypassing the filtration step.
Kasztelan has tried their best to produce a good Specialty Beer, but there are better Lager Beer options available globally. I believe Kasztelan has potential to enter the global market and produce good Beers , as the Art of Brewing Beer has long been inspired by the richness of nature.
