La Roche-en-Ardenne is a town straight out of a fairy tale. It is located in southeast Belgium, approximately 127 kilometres from Brussels. My friend Rohin insisted on going, and I trusted him, so we drove. It was like walking into a storybook when we arrived. The streets were wonderful, with antique houses and even steps that added to the enchantment. It’s been around for a long time, going back to 850-520 BC, which is really old! There’s even a prehistoric Celtic site to prove it. What’s more, guess what? The Ourthe River runs through the town, contributing to its attractiveness.

We saw two World War II tanks on exhibit as memorials at the town’s entrance, and we examined a beautiful ancient church named “Église Saint-Nicolas, La Roche-en-Ardenne”. It’s surrounded by lush forests, and a pretty river runs through it. The buildings and cobblestone streets make you feel like you’re in a fairy tale.

One of the best things about La Roche-en-Ardenne is how calm and quiet it is. It’s the perfect escape from the noisy cities.

While wandering through the streets of La Roche-en-Ardenne, we stumbled upon a small store named “La Cave Du Ventinien” and made a discovery that would forever connect the dots of history. There, on the shelves, stood “Patton Beer,” an Ardenne local beer with a label featuring 2 Army General Officers from World War 2 and suddenly I remembered there are two World War 2 tanks in the Town. This couldn’t be a coincidence. I knew that this beer was our gateway into understanding the rich historical significance of this place. So we gave it a go.

Now, let’s talk about the beer first

Despite my best attempts, I was unable to locate an original Patton Beer Glass For Sale and had to make the best use of the Glass that was available. The bottle remains simple and attractive. It’s easy to open and flows easily into a glass. When you pour this beer, you’ll be welcomed with a lovely golden hue. It’s clean and welcoming, giving the impression of a high-quality brew. The scent is a delectable blend of hops and malt, with a hint of citrus. It’s light and welcoming, making you want to take your first taste.

This beer absolutely shines in terms of flavour. It has an excellent balance of malty sweetness and a somewhat bitter aftertaste. It’s not too hefty, so it’s suitable for any occasion. After the last sip, the flavour is clean and leaves a delightful, hoppy impression that stays just long enough to make you want another. Patton Beer Le Generale is an excellent beer. It provides a well-rounded taste, ideal for individuals who want a delicious but not excessively complicated beer.

Patton Beer, an Organic Belgian Golden Ale, proved to be both refreshing and delicious. The experience of sipping this beer in the midst of such a beautiful town was unforgettable. We decided to dig more into the history while sipping the beer, and it all came together.

We learnt that every year at Christmas, the Ardennes commemorate the Ardennes’ liberation with Patton Beer as a sign of triumph for the Allied soldiers.

history & Patton Beer

On Christmas Day, 1944, the Germans began an attempt to take Bastogne (28kms from La Roche en Ardenne, in Ardenne Forest). They launched a tank assault on the Champs village. The 502nd Battalion of the 101st Airborne Division, headquartered at Rolley, valiantly halted the onslaught. This was in reaction to Brigadier-General Anthony McAuliffe’s strong response to the German demand that Bastogne be surrendered. The daring of his men inspired General George S. Patton, who moved his divisions to the Ardennes forest, which played a critical part in finishing the Battle of the Bulge and World War II. As a result of inspiration and bravery, “Patton Beer Le Generale” came into existence.

The story as a whole came to a full circle when we learnt that a ceremony was organised to honour this courageous history in a medieval fortification in Rolley, near Bastogne. Patton Beer Brewery puts it all together with an amazing organic Belgian beer that honours the victorious partnerships of these two generals and their warriors.

In a nutshell, La Roche-en-Ardenne is a hidden treasure, a town of exquisite beauty mixed with a long and influential history. Patton Beer Le Generale is more than just a beer; it’s a taste of history and a chance to commemorate the town’s involvement in a pivotal period in World War II. It’s a monument to the continuing spirit of remembering, as well as a lovely experience you won’t soon forget. It is an homage to the generals and troops who shaped history.

Thank you, Rohin; I’m delighted we went to La Roche-en-Ardenne – The lovely cinematic town provided a wonderful experience.
