History
Flensburger Brauerei is a brewery located in Flensburg in the Bundesland (federal state) of Schleswig-Holstein, Germany. The company was founded on September 6, 1888 by five citizen of Flensburg. Before modern refrigeration, the brewery used to chop blocks of ice from frozen lakes in the winter and bring the blocks back to the brewery to keep their underground storage facilities cool in summer. The brewery is still operating its own water well, which is supplied by an underground vein of a very old Ice Age melting water coming from Scandinavia.
All Flensburger products are glass bottled by using the traditional flip-top as bottle cap and the Flensburger beers are usually just called Flens by the local people when ordering one.
About the beer
Another pure German beauty, wonderfully zesty and with herbal hop bite that makes Flensburger Pils such a classic beer. The Flensberger Gold is a fantastic example of the Dortmunder Export style. This style is known for its refreshing simplicity where the malts are prominent but it still finishes very clean. Balance and smoothness are the hallmarks of this style. This Beer has rich aromas of malts, barley, grain, and maybe even some honey . This lager has a medium-body that is deceptively richer than it looks whilst its moderate dryness gives the Flensburger Gold a crisp and refreshing finish. Definitely a classic German lager beer and would like to have it again.
