The Black Sheep Brewery was established in 1991 in Masham in the borough of Harrogate in North Yorkshire, England. This brewery produces a range of well hopped beers and it quickly became successful. It now produces over 75,000 barrel a year. It has one of the largest share holding in CARMA Members’ Investment Club. Black Sheep use the Yorkshire Square Fermenting system. This traditional and unusual method of fermenting was developed in Yorkshire 200 yrs ago by Thimothy Bentley and yields beer with distinctive bitterness and silky mouth feel.
About the Beer:
Open the Can and you get an instant hit of roasted coffee and chocolate with light orange citrusy notes. It pours into a beautiful glass with dark intense brown colour, medium body and light carbonation. It also produces a large head, looks brilliant and shimmering in the lights. It was definitely very aromatic and appealing. Taste of mild roasted grains, coffee, chocolate, light earthiness, citrusy and English hops. Bitterness hits right on your palate and continues through the finish. An unusual but not entirely satisfying ale. This beer is an example of “Looks can be deceptive”. It is a dark beer, resembles a strong ale with plenty of hops but not exactly well balanced like an authentic IPA.
