Thanks to my friend Ankit Shah, who recently returned from a trip to South Africa and got this Habesh Cold Gold Beer for me, I had the chance to try a beer that sparked my curiosity

Cold Gold pours a light to medium golden amber color, living up to its name. A generous three-finger white head lingers impressively, leaving nice lacing as the beer recedes. The aroma is refreshingly simple, dominated by lightly grainy lager malt with hints of grassy hops, hay, touch of minerals and corn sweetness. It’s clean and inviting scent that promises a straightforward lager experience.

The flavor profile follows suit, offering a balanced and satisfying initial sip. The focus is on the grainy lager malt, with subtle grassy hops providing a touch of bitterness. A hint of corn sweetness peeks through in the finish, but it’s not overwhelming. The medium body has a light creaminess that adds a touch of texture, making it enjoyable without being heavy.

While the initial impression is pleasant, the flavors do taper off a bit towards the finish. This doesn’t detract from the overall experience, but it suggests Cold Gold is designed to be a refreshing and easy-drinking option rather than a complex flavor bomb.

The mouthfeel of Habesha Cold Gold is smooth and slightly grippy, providing a pleasant texture that complements its flavor profile. The beer has high drinkability and harmonious taste profile making it a perfect companion for a variety of dishes, especially those rich in spices. A dry, slightly bitter finish rounds off the beer enjoyment perfectly, leaving a clean palate ready for the next sip.

My curiosity piqued, I delved deeper into the Habesha Brewery. Founded in 2009, it’s a young brewery with a clear mission: to create high-quality beers that represent Ethiopia with pride. Their flagship lager, Cold Gold, embodies this mission perfectly.

Habesha Cold Gold is a very versatile and easy-drinking beer. Its vibrant gold color, rich malty aromas and smooth palate feel make it an easy to drink in the realm of adjunct pale lagers. Brewed with water sourced from the Debre Birhan highlands in Ethiopia, this malt-driven lager is at once rich and textural, clean and crisp.

The Ethiopian brewery Habesha is known for its dedication to quality and tradition. When you approach a project with ambition and discipline, gold is the goal you work towards. This philosophy is deeply embedded in Habesha’s brewing practices. The team works hard every day to brew the finest beer, representing their country with pride, passion, and exceptional brewing products.

Habesha Cold Gold is the brewery’s flagship beer, a testament to their commitment to excellence. The concept of gold runs through every aspect of this beer, from its impressive label to its luminous appearance in the glass. The enjoyment continues with every sip, offering an Abundant Experience of fine malt notes that caress the palate.

One of the key elements that set Habesha Cold Gold apart is the water used in its brewing process. Sourced from the Debre Birhan highlands in Ethiopia, this water is renowned for its purity and mineral content, which significantly contributes to the beer’s clean and crisp character. The pristine quality of this water ensures that the beer is not only refreshing but also rich in texture and flavor.
