My La Chouffe Blonde Beer Experience

When poured, La Chouffe Blonde presented a hazy golden hue, topped with a robust two-finger white head which decapitated very quickly leaving a thin white layer on the top. The effervescence was evident, with fine bubbles dancing through the glass, and it left behind substantial lacing as you sip.

Oh, that famous gnome / Dwarf! “Marcel” represents the charm and history of Brasserie d’Achouffe by sitting proudly atop the bottle while wearing his small red hat. According to legend, the founders of the brewery were inspired to create the unique formula by a gnome that resembled Marcel. Every beer at Brasserie features a distinctive gnome, an amusing element that enhances the whole drinking experience.

The tulip-shaped Chouffe glass brilliantly displays the golden colour of the beer. Its broad aperture cradles the white head that forms on two fingers of beer, enabling it to breathe and displaying its vibrant colour, which enhances the whole beer experience visually.

An aromatic musky smell welcomes the senses and quickly gives way to a delicious combination of yeast, banana, and coriander. With traces of orange zest from the hops, the aromatic character is expertly harmonised, producing a fragrance that is both sweet and spicy.

Like the aroma, the flavour is strong yet delightful, with notes of banana, spices and coriander. A delicate crispy maltiness provides the expected golden ale lightness, but a faint bitterness lingers in the background.

La Chouffe Blonde has a significantly lighter mouthfeel than one might anticipate given its ABV, making it a pleasant and refreshing drink. There’s a noticeable bite of carbonation, but it’s countered with a creamy head that lasts and leaves a lingering maltiness in the end.

Sunlight filled the streets of Rue du Marché Bruxelles, creating a picture of vibrant activity and architectural grandeur. The bright vibrancy of the boulevard was complemented by the touch of cultural depth provided by the Musée de la ville. La Chouffe Blonde appeared to go well with the vibrant atmosphere with every drink, making the experience of discovering this stunning location even more enjoyable.

While La Chouffe Blonde may not be the ultimate in blonde ales, its unique flavour, long history add to its appeal and make it a favourite among beer lovers all over the world.

Brasserie d’Achouffe’s main beer, La Chouffe Blonde, has received praise, taking both silver at the World Beer Awards and bronze at the World Beer Idol. With its widespread appeal throughout more than 40 nations, it has become a well-known Belgian beer.

Brasserie d’Achouffe was established in 1982 by Pierre Gobron and Chris Bauweraerts, who started off small by making their first batches on a tight budget. The brewery’s expansion was spurred by La Chouffe’s popularity, which also helped to establish its distinctive gnome insignia as a household name.
