About the Beer
I was in the US, Virginia and was pleasantly surprised to see an Indian Beer – Taj Mahal in the Menu, So I had to try this Beer.
It pours a flaccid pale yellow out of it’s sturdy 330ml brown bottle more like apple juice than any fermented malt beverage I have ever laid eyes upon. The head is large and fizzy leaving considerable lacing on the glass as it quickly dissipates.
It smells more like a detergent that has a bit of apple aroma and some low quality yeast that leads to a skunky smell.
The taste is slightly sweeter than most lagers, a very weak malty character with almost no discernible hops or bitterness. It is very watery with some flavors of corn adjunct.
The label reads “Brewed from the finest malt and choicest hops”. Well, the malt character seemed very thin, not premium and the hops are almost undetectable.
Taj Mahal Beer’s sibling Kingfisher Premium Beer in India is also an adjunct lager and tastes far better and refreshing.
This stuff is bad and has a “Slow Brewed For the Connoisseur” claim on the neck label. I think they brewed it slow that they completely forgot about it. If you see this beer on any bar shelf or menu, then avert your eyes and hastily choose some other brand. You have not missed anything in your life.
Initially, I was very happy to see that an Indian Beer is being served in the US. But after experiencing it, I was extremely disappointed that a wrong Indian Beer was being served in the US. Because there are some fine Indian Brewed Beers available in India.
