History:
It was one of the early microbreweries British Columbia started in 1985 by German immigrants Jakob Tobler and Buko Von Krosigk. Okanagan Spring has dominated the regional microbrewery scene since the mid-90’s. The product line was originally oriented toward lagers, but the company soon found out that there was a much more enthusiastic market for ales among drinkers of microbrewery beer. Products are widely available in 6-packs and 12-packs of 341ml bottles, 6-packs of 355ml cans, and the pale ale is widely available on tap. Okanagan Spring Pale Ale brewed since 1989 has won Gold Medal in 2015 in World Beer Awards Canada.
About the Beer:
The flagship beer Pours a copper color that is crystal clear and with medium carbonation rising to the top of the glass. The head was very small and dissipated quickly. The lacing looks very good, as lots of soapy bubbles cling to the glass. Aroma evokes some dark malt and hints of citrus. The aroma of malts are more assertive than the hops with just enough malt and hops to make it “above average”. It is crisp and fruity on the palate. This is one of those Pale Ale that I would choose instead of a Lager. But I don’t think it represents the style well, as there are definitely better Pale Ales available elsewhere with perfect balance of malt and hops. I think we’d have a winner here if they add some more hops to the recipe.
PS : Special thanks to Anoop George for getting this beer for me.
