#25 – Steam Whistle Beer – Pilsner

Steam Whistle Brewing is a brewery in Toronto.

They only use four natural ingredients, i.e. spring water from Caledon, Ontario; hops from Czech Republic and Germany; two-row barley and  yeast. Steam Whistle Pilsner was voted best beer in Toronto at the Golden Tap Awards and has also been voted Best Toronto Microbrewery.  The original name for the beer was going to be “Three Fired Guys Brewing Company” since they (Greg Taylor, Cam Heaps and Greg Cromwell) were all retrenched from Upper Canada Brewing Company when it was purchased by Sleeman. However, they chose Steam Whistle Brewing to evoke an image of steam spewing out from the factory’s whistle signalling the end of the work day.

Brilliant golden in Colour with lots of carbonation and thin head that dissipates in size but persists in presence. Absolutely my go-to beer for any occasion. I love it’s retroness, beside it being so refreshing and crisp like springtime in the morning. The taste is pleasant and neither too hoppy nor too malty. The length and evolving complexity of flavors are remarkable as every sip reveals a full array of new flavor combinations and a bitter-dry finish that makes you want it more. Definitely recommended for Pils fans. This is easily one of the best Canadian beer I have had and a fine example of a German Pils made out of just 4 basic ingredients. Folks, it is definitely a Good Beer.
